Nike opened its newest brand experience store last Friday, November 4 in downtown Portland, Oregon. (The old NikeTown store in Portland, which opened in 1990 as the country’s first NikeTown, has been shuttered.)
Some facts about the store:
- It’s 26,000-square-foot and three-stories.
- Perched on the mezzanine level is the Bowerman Wall, an interactive display that tells the stories behind Nike’s heritage, athletes, innovation, and giving programs. The 12-foot-by-7-foot media wall is made of a grid of nine thin monitors that display a mosaic of 1,404 tiny images. Visitors can touch more than 100 of these images to learn more about the stories behind them through videos and interactive photos.
- A NIKEiD Station targeting team sports athletes allows consumers to customize their footwear, apparel and equipment. (More than 115 styles can be customized on site.)
- Nike collaborated with Beaverton High School (BHS) to use the school’s old bleachers through the store environment and gifted BHS new bleachers. An old scoreboard from the BHS softball field was redesigned into a tabletop in the NIKEiD Studio.
- Nike Portland’s main level features a gymnasium floor that was reclaimed from a local high school.
- The store is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and has been designed to anticipate LEED Platinum Certification standard which will make it Nike’s 6 th LEED certified store.
